Course description:

Mandarin Chinese, a language spoken by nearly one third of the world population, is becoming the business and economic language of the world in recent years.

By studying A-level Mandarin Chinese you will become familiar with the fascinating culture and language of this historic and diverse country.

The knowledge and understanding of Chinese language and culture will be invaluable in your future studies and will give you the edge in your career.

Course content:

On this one year A-level course, you will revise Pinyin; develop your research-based critical essay writing; daily life writing; Mandarin speaking; Mandarin listening and simplified symbols and reading skills by studying a wide range of topics that will enable you to communicate successfully when working or travelling in China.
Your ability of translation between daily English and Chinese will also be improved through this course.

Course assessment:

A-level Chinese examinations are divided equally between listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Entry requirements:

This course is mainly available to native Mandarin or Cantonese speakers.

Progression opportunities:

This course will strengthen your understanding of the Chinese language, culture and the modern society. It will be very useful in careers such as politics, tourism, business, marketing and hospitality.

You will have the chance to become a language buddy with a student from the GCSE Chinese class to help each other with English and/or Chinese.

Cost: Students will be asked to pay up to £20 for text/grammar workbooks.
