Introductory Vocational

The Introductory Diplomas give you the chance to work in one of our excellent vocational areas if you have lower grades at GCSE or are progressing from an entry level certificate in Skills for Working Life.

You can choose from the following areas:

  • Art & Design
  • Construction (3 options)
  • Engineering
  • Health & Social Care
  • Hospitality
  • IT at Work
  • Travel & Tourism
  • Sport & Leisure

Alongside your vocational studies you will work to improve your skills in Number, Communication and IT and to develop your personal skills.

Groups are usually small and are often supported by specialist Learning Assistants as well as Tutors. Most sessions will be in groups but you will also have time for individual working, with a tutor available to help you.

In the second term of the course you will do a 2 week work placement and you will also take part in field trips to gain practical experience in your chosen area.

Courses last one year – at the end many students will be looking for employment, or further training. Students who achieve a merit grade on the course and have good reports from teaching staff can progress to the Intermediate Vocational Pathway.

“My highlights of College so far have been the new friends I’ve made, and doing work experience at ESSO. It was a great achievement passing my course and I am now looking forward to completing my BTEC First Diploma in Engineering this year.”
