The A level Pathway is a natural choice for you if you have enjoyed and been successful on your GCSE courses. A levels offer you the chance to focus your attention on a smaller number of subjects, building your knowledge and understanding in the areas in which you have proven strengths and strong interest.

You will normally choose four subjects from a wide range of available courses and any combination should be possible - one advantage of joining a larger college.

55 courses are available - our course advisors will help you choose the ideal combination.

To succeed on an A level programme you will need to achieve A*- C grades in at least five subjects at GCSE. Most A level students have several A*/A/B grades, especially in the subjects they want to study at A level.

In your first year you will complete two/three modules of the course, which will give you an AS qualification.

If you decide to continue the course you will do a further two/three modules in your second year to complete your full A level. You may also be able to undertake an extended project in an area of your choice to develop your learning.

A levels are classroom based but think about combining A levels with options like the Business Administration Award course or community volunteering to develop your practical skills.

Most A levels involve a combination of exams and coursework and you may have your first exam as early as January in your first year. You will be able to re-take modules to improve your marks when you need to.

Each A level course will involve 4 sessions a week in class and you will need to spend a similar amount of time on study at home or in the Learning Resources Centre. Lessons will be a mixture of discussion, lectures, group work and practical activities.

Where Next?

Many A level students will be heading for university courses all over the country. However, many employers are also keen to recruit successful A level students at the age of 18. See the course profiles in our Prospectus for more details about particular A level courses or browse by subject area opposite or search using the search widget below.

I came to Brock because of its great reputation for Performance Studies which is what I want to pursue as a career. When I came to the Open Evening the lecturers were really enthusiastic and that was definitely a deciding factor in my coming here.
