Foundation Learning

 

Foundation Learning courses are designed for 14 – 19 year old students who may need to achieve qualifications or build confidence in order to progress onto Level 2 courses, training or employment. Brockenhurst’s experienced teaching staff use a variety of teaching methods to make the classes fun, interesting and relevant.

As well as enjoying Brockenhurst’s interactive classes, students also benefit from work placements, taster sessions and extra opportunities at College. Gaining new skills, increasing knowledge and building self-esteem are just a few of the many benefits students will enjoy as part of our Foundation Learning programmes.

6CCED         Foundation Learning - Continuing Education

This pathway is set at the Pre-Entry/Entry level and will be suitable for you if you have benefited from special education or have come from a secondary school which has been able to give you specialised educational support.  It is a one or two year programme.

The main emphasis of this course is on life skills and personal development and/or learning and gaining the skills and confidence to move on to further study within the college.

You will be offered a learning programme which builds on your existing strengthsYour course will include Literacy and Numeracy with a focus on general life skills but you will also be given opportunities to sample work in a variety of areas across the College.  Particular subjects on offer will include: Catering, Information Technology; Art and Ceramics, Music & Drama, Woodwork & Gardening.

These practical and academic skills will be recognised in a variety of ways including nationally recognised qualifications.  This course provides a framework within which you can work towards your future career or learning aims.

 Foundation Learning at Level 1 is a personalised learning programme which gives you the opportunity to prepare for your future.  It is made up of a Diploma course that includes tasters from a choice of a range of vocational areas such as Engineering, Health & Social Care & Media Studies; a Certificate to prepare you for employment and develop your personal and social skills; basic Maths and English (at a level to suit you) and a one week Work Experience placement.

If you have lower grades at GCSE or are progressing from an entry level qualification, this course could be for you.

This vocational studies Pathway will give you the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills to enable you to progress to higher level qualifications, an apprenticeship or to employment.

6FL_OB         Foundation Learning - Opportunity Brock   

    Opportunity Brock at Level 1 is a personalised learning programme which gives you the chance to prepare for your future.  It is made up of a Diploma course, tasters from a range of vocational areas, a Certificate to prepare you for employment and develop your personal and social skills, basic Maths and English (at a level to suit you). 

   The programme is open to all school leavers.  All applications considered up to age 19.  There are no entry requirements which may suit you if you have not been in education for a while.

The flexible, 16 hours per week programme takes place in a variety of New Forest locations.

Projects at Longdown Dairy Farm, sport, construction skills and employability skills are studied at either the main college site or at our new skills centre at Marchwood.  Working towards a NCFE Level 1 certificate, students are able to experience a wide range of community visits and workshops with a view towards progression onto other college courses or employment in the local area.

I visited other colleges but found Brockenhurst was the most friendly and most geared to my needs.  I have really enjoyed going to Calshot to do Archery and I liked taking part in residential trips with my friends.  The teachers and staff here are always friendly and understanding.
