This course is designed to give you a critical understanding of the world of business.  The course covers the following areas:  Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, Operations Management, Business Strategy and the External Influences Affecting Firms.  At AS level the course focus is on the issues involved in setting up and operating a small business.  It looks at the research and plannning required for a successful business start-up and examines how existing businesses might improve their effectiveness.  At A2 level the course focus is on larger firms and is concerned with strategic issues affecting business success, as well as the business external environment and managing change.  Assessment is by written examination.  A good understanding of business organisations and issues is a key asset to a career progression in most fields.

6SAEC        AS/A level Economics

This course involves a study of the workings of the economy.  We look at the Operation of Markets and the Sources of Market Failure.  The course also covers the problems that confront the economy as a whole including Unemployment, Inflation, Economic Growth and the Environment.  We study and evaluate the policies that may be used to deal with these issues.  In the second year there are opportunities to specialise in areas such as Transport Economics and the Global Economy.  Assessment is by examination.

6C2NCB           NVQ 2 Certificate in Business and Administration

This course will provide you with the skills, knowledge and practical experience to work in an administrative or secretarial capacity in any organisation.  It covers all aspects of administration plus the chance to gain recognised OCR qualifications in text, word processing and audio, with an opportunity to take subjects such as legal text processing, medical word processing and business presentations.  You will also take an IT qualification which will include using databases and spreadsheets.  There may also be an opportunity to take an additional GCSE subject.  The NVQ is a work based qualification and is achieved through working both in the College's Business Centre and Business.
