
Performing Arts offers a variety of exciting careers from performance to front of house, arts administration and teaching. So whether you want to perform on the stage or work behind the scenes, our lecturers have the professional experience to know what it takes to make it in the arts and help develop your talent.
We offer a wide range of challenging and rewarding courses including A levels in dance, drama, music and performance studies and level 2 and 3 Vocational programmes in Performing Arts. Our courses encourage learning theory through practice, so your written work is relevant and informed. You will gain the technique and experience you’ll need within your specialist subject areas and as part of your studies you will have the opportunity to perform, participate in workshops, go on theatre visits in London’s West End, and even travel on a trip abroad.
As well as your timetabled classes, Brock students also have access to a range of extra enrichment activities including LAMDA, Samba Band and Broadway Singing, which can be learnt just for fun or transferred into UCAS points with exams. The College Record Label – Black Sheep Records – currently has 7 bands on the books and a full programme of writing, recording and performing music. While the annual College Production provides a full scale theatre production experience which is open to all students through an audition process.

6SAD AS/A level Dance
You will have the opportunity to perform, develop choreographic skills and learn how to appreciate the work of past and present choreographers. As well as contemporary dance technique classes you will study Dance History and Anatomy. Assessment is by examination for the theory whilst the practical unit will be internally assessed and externally moderated.

6SADR AS/A level Drama & Theatre Studies
This is an exciting blend of both theory and practical learning for those with a strong interest in theatre and how it works. You will study modern theatre practitioners and a range of play texts from both the twentieth century and earlier and develop your critical eye through the numerous theatre visits which the group makes. We are always keen for you to learn theory through practice, so that your written work is relevant and informed. Our aim is to develop you as both an individual and team player throughout the course - skills which are valuable whichever career you hope to pursue. Course assessment consists of practical and written examinations.

6SAMUS AS/A level Music
This course will allow you to develop your musical skills in performance, listening and analysing, and composing. Music studied will be, for the most part, in the Western Classical tradition; however, you will also study Jazz of the Twentieth Century. The AS course requires you to perform a short recital on your main instrument (or voice); to compose an original work for instruments, and a portfolio of composition exercises; and to study a range of set works - three Classical works and three Jazz works. You are entitled to free instrumental (or vocal) tuition and are encouraged to take part in the College's instrumental ensembles, choir, and other productions. You should be able to play a traditional instrument at a minimum of Grade V standard as well as having a good understanding of music theory.

6SAMT AS/A level Music Technology
This course looks at how various kinds of technology is used in the creation and recording of music. Musicians with a good understanding of music (theory and practice) will be able to develop their composition and listening skills and also use recording technology. Practical work includes The Principles and Practice of Music Technology which deals with MIDI sequencing, audio sequencing and recording. This involves using appropriate equipment and understanding the processes that achieve musical results. Students are required to build up a portfolio of project work. In addition to the practical work you will learn about the main developments in music technology over the last 100 years. This includes both the equipment itself, and how it has been put to use in various styles of music. Finally, you will study Popular Music Styles since 1910: a study of many types of 'Popular Music' including jazz as well as pop and rock. You will learn about the main developments in these styles and will be able to recognise and write about key features.

6SAPST AS/A level Performance Studies
This exciting course allows you to develop practical skills and knowledge in the areas of Dance, Drama and Music. Each of the units, all of which are based on creative performance, are assessed as you go along, either by coursework, written paper or performance. The AS requires you to explore the disciplines of Drama, Dance and Music where you will develop skills and create devised work based on myths and legends of the New Forest. In the A2 year you will create a student devised piece in small groups as well as performing a piece of Drama, Dance or Music. The contextual work studied in the A2 year is the genre of Post Modernism. The course is supplemented by trips and workshops.

6C2DPA EDEXCEL Level 2 BTEC Diploma - Performing Arts
This course is practical and work related. If you enjoy performing and are keen to develop your acting skills along with dance and singing this could be the course for you. It is an introduction to the Performing Arts business and includes performing scripted pieces, writing reports, making video diaries and devising your own plays. You need to be really keen to get involved and improve your skills.

6C3EDPA EDEXCEL Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma - Performing Arts
If you enjoy performing and you are interested in all aspects of the Performing Arts this might well be the course for you. You will have the opportunity to develop performance skills in dance, drama and music, as well as the opportunity to learn about stage management, lighting, set design and employment opportunities. The course will give you a broad based introduction to a career in the Performing Arts, and allow you to continue into Higher Education and employment.
