6SAFS AS/A level Film Studies
This course offers the opportunity to study film in depth and experience a range of films from 1920 to the present day. You will be introduced to critical approaches to analysing film, within the wider context of the global film industry. You study the historical, political, industrial and economic conditions which influence film production and develop an understanding of film as an aesthetic practice and social document. Aspects of film covered include commercial and independent production, the impact of new technologies, British and Irish cinema, alternative forms of cinema and current issues/media debates involving film. Classes consist of lectures, film readings, screenings, group discussions and presentations and encourage you to develop a range of analytical and learning skills. A number of trips will be organised throughout the year to facilitate the study of films and the film industry.

6SAME AS/A level Media Studies
Media Studies is a lively, dynamic, growing subject, increasingly popular and relevant in modern society. If you are interested in Media and wish to explore how the media operates, this course will provide a good framework. You will learn to analyse critically the way in which the world is presented to the audiences on television, in newspapers, on radio and in other media. The course also offers the opportunity to acquire practical production skills in video, print and web design. The course is 50% Practical and 50% Theory, assessment takes place through examination and coursework. We would recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in Media or who wishes to pursue a career in Media.

6SAPH AS/A level Photography
There is a strong emphasis on exploring the exciting artistic potential of photography. This is done through exploring various means of visual representation ranging from black and white printing, digital imagery to combining mixed media. The broad application of this medium is based upon a personal investigation into how photography functions as a creative and cultural means of communication within an historical and contemporary setting. Assessment is by coursework units and practical examination.
