6C2DPS          EDEXCEL Level 2 BTEC Diploma - Public Services

This course develops your educational and physical abilities to prepare you for entry into your chosen career in HM Forces or Uniformed Public Services such as the Police, Fire Service etc.  It encourages your basic understanding of the society in which we live, improves and consolidates your fitness and introduces you to the role and career structure of the services. You will discover how to enter the services, what jobs are available and how each service relates to society.  You will take part in Fitness Training and Sport and Physical Recreation together with Outdoor Activities and training in Navigation.  You will undergo Personal Development, consider Current Affairs and be prepared for selection to the Uniformed Public Service of your choice.  Visiting speakers, trips to service establishments, practical demonstrations, adventure training, residential camps and sporting activities from important parts of the course.  There is continual assessment based on assignment, case studies and practical sessions.  IT is studied and its use across the course encouraged.

This course prepares you for Higher Education and a wide range of careers in the Uniformed Public Services.  You will investigate each of the services by considering what they actually do and their position and role within society.  You will have close involvement with the uniformed services through visiting speakers, external visits and practical demonstrations.  Participation in the Public Services Army Cadet Force leads to adventure training, residential camps and sporting activities which form an important part of the course.  The Diploma consists of 18 units while the Certificate is 12 units.  There is continual assessment by assignments.

6CNCEY          EDEXCEL National Certificate - Children's Care Learning & Development (Early Years)

This qualification provides a specialist work related programme of study that covers the key knowledge and practical skills required to work in the Early Years Sector. 

The Certificate is a 2 year course which comprises 7 core units, 4 specialist units and 800 hours of placement in a range of 4 different settings working with children aged 0 - 8 years.  The Certificate confers Qualified Practitioner Status.  The course is assessed continuously and is based on assignments relating theory to practice and competence in the workplace.  There are no examinations.  The Certificate is equivalent to two GCEs. 

Units studied include Positive Relationships for Children's Care, Learning and Development, Positive Environments, Promoting Children's Development, Reflecting on Development, Reflecting on Development Practice for Children aged 0 - 8, Protecting Children, Promoting Children's Rights and Children's Learning Activities and Play.
