14-16 & Inclusion Programmes
What is 14 – 16 & Inclusion Programmes?
YOUNG APPRENTICESHIPSThe Young Apprenticeship (YA) programme is a new route at key stage 4. The programme allows motivated and able pupils to study for vocational qualifications, not just in the classroom, but also in college, with training providers and in the workplace. Pupils are based in school, and follow the core National Curriculum subjects - but for two days a week (or equivalent) they also work towards nationally recognised vocational qualifications delivered by Brockenhurst College and work experience training by Travis Perkins. Our students currently attend the Marchwood Construction Skills Centre one day a week and work experience at a local branch of Travis Perkins one day a week where they also have the opportunity to engage in TP’s own employee training schemes. Site visits to view construction sites at various stages of development are also given by McCarthy & Stone. This programme gives pupils the chance to gain a taste of ‘real work' and lay the foundations for a post-16 Apprenticeship whilst retaining the full range of progression options for future training or study.
