Host Family Accommodation

One of the benefits offered to International Students is accommodation with a host family organised by Brockenhurst College.

Students live with local families in nearby towns and villages and travel to College by bus or train. Families are selected, inspected and monitored by College Accommodation Officers, and all family members have to pass a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. Host families welcome students into their homes making them a part of the family and helping them feel at home in the UK. English is spoken in the home and is an excellent way for students to practice conversational English outside of College, as well as learning about British culture and daily life.

Host family accommodation includes:

  • Study bedroom with desk
  • Laundry
  • Internet access
  • Food (Breakfast and evening meals on weekdays. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals at weekends.)

“We have been host parents for three years and it is fulfilling assisting students with their understanding of the English language. We enjoy sharing and learning about different cultures.” Host family parents, New Milton (within walking distance of the station and with easy access to Bournemouth)

Travel

The College is committed to enabling all students who want to study at Brockenhurst to travel here easily. You will be able to order a College travel pass to enable you to travel to and from the College. This price is subsidised by the College which means that buying a College travel pass is cheaper than paying for a ticket each day. (Price for 2011 entry is £820). You will be able to collect your travel pass when you arrive.

Further travel information is available from the Student Advice Centre on +44 (0)1590 625533

“I found the accommodation team really helpful and supportive. They explained things clearly to me. I really like my accommodation, and the host family are so welcoming. I get on really well with the three other Brockenhurst students who live in the house. The accommodation was really easy to apply for, and the College gave me help when completing application forms.”

The International Office is great, they have really supported me and helped me to settle in with my host family and my classes.
