College students brave fiercest weather conditions in years to sit January exams
January 2010 Sixth Form news While most of the country was buried under the heaviest snowfall for almost 25 years, exams started on Monday last week at Brockenhurst College with only a 15 minute delay. With an almost 100% turn-out for their mid-year exams nothing was going to deter Brockenhurst students from sitting their exams.
During the worst of the weather, and while the exam boards were deliberating on how to proceed with the exams, Brockenhurst set work and course materials for students, which were uploaded to the College intranet. This helped to ensure everyone was prepared for their exams as they watched the latest weather updates on the website.
Karen Sturland, Exams Manager for Brockenhurst College, said, “The only delay we experienced was on Monday morning, the first day of exams, when students were given an extra 15 minutes to get to College. Those who live further afield stayed with friends closer to the College and others made it in by sheer determination. All of the invigilators made it in and there were no exceptionally late students, so it was business as usual at Brock.”

Due to last week’s inclement weather Brockenhurst is also pleased to announce that it is holding an additional Open Evening for those who were unable to travel to the College. On 11th February, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, Brockenhurst will once again open its doors and offer the opportunity for prospective students and their parents to see what makes the College first choice for many school leavers in the region.
