Support

We offer a range of services to support our students from the start of the application process right through to career or Higher Education progression and everything in between. We recently achieved the Matrix standard – external recognition of the high quality information, advice and guidance provided for our students.

Your progress will be monitored carefully with an online registration system and written reports. Parents/guardians are also encouraged to come to College at regular Parents’ Evenings to be kept informed of your performance.

Advice

We undertstand that there are lots of choices you have to make when deciding to come to college and that the list of options available after school can sometimes be confusing.

If you are thinking of applying for a full time course in the Sixth Form and need advice, please contact our team of course advisers by telephoning Sue Buck, Admissions Administrator, on 01590 625507.

Tutor Support

All full time students at the College have a Personal Tutor whom they meet once a week. Personal Tutors are all teachers at the College with a special interest in supporting individual students. Your tutor will be the first and easiest person to ask for advice about any aspect of your time at College.
Your tutor will:

  • Help you settle into College
  • Keep an eye on your attendance and progress while you are on your course
  • Keep you informed about events and opportunities in College
  • Advise you about issues related to your courses or timetable
  • Help you with your career plans and progression into Higher Education or employment

In addition to weekly tutor sessions you will have at least four individual meetings with your tutor during the year to discuss your progress, deal with any concerns and agree ways in which you can improve your performance.

College Counsellor

The College counselling service offers confidential, professional counselling to students during normal college hours. The counselling room is close to Student Services and students are able to book appointments for themselves.

Health Advice

A confidential health advice service, staffed by a qualified nurse, is available on a drop in basis on Monday to Wednesday. The College also organises health promotion events throughout the year – for further information please contact the College Health Co-ordinator, on 01590 625555 (Ext 300).

Information, Advice & Guidance

Youth Support Service Advisers are available in College every day to offer impartial information and guidance. Students can book individual interviews according to their needs at any time during their course and drop in sessions are also available every day.

The College Careers Coordinator organises large scale careers education and guidance events at the College in the spring and summer terms, works with Personal Tutors to ensure that all students have developed career plans and is also available for individual guidance.

The Careers area within the Learning Resources Centre contains a comprehensive collection of resources for progression into Higher Education as well as information on careers and employment.
