Our Main Nursery - Nutkins and Squirrels

We can accommodate 28 children between 18 months - 3 years in this part of the Nursery. The children are divided into two groups using the three areas within the Nursery. One of these areas is a wet and messy area, the other two are main play areas, one of which has a small messy area incorporated into it.

The staffing ratios within the main nursery are 1:3 for the 18 month - 2 year olds and 1:4 for the 2-3 year olds.

Learning Framework
The Nutkin and Squirrel groups plan around the ‘Birth - 3 Matters' Framework which has 4 main areas of learning, ‘A Strong Child', ‘A Skilful Communicator', ‘A Competent Learner' and ‘A Healthy Child'. Planning always includes a variety of craft and malleable activities which are linked to the current topic, as well as incorporating special occasions such as Mother's day, Father's day, Valentine's day etc. Play opportunities are offered that are enjoyable, age and stage appropriate and promote intellectual, physical, language, emotional and social development.

Activities
Throughout the day a variety of activities are planned using information from observations and evaluations to encourage individual specific skills. During this time key workers have the opportunity to work with their individual key children.

There are opportunities throughout the day for group time when children are encouraged to join in with rhymes and songs and take part in story time/circle time. A role play home corner and a selection of books are available at all times for children to access.
