Our Pre-school - Owls
We can accommodate 34 children in a separate building to the left of the main Nursery building which is shared with the After School Club. The Pre-school children are aged between 3 - 5 years. The children move through to this group the term after their third birthday and will stay there until they are due to start school. We are able to offer 22 term time only places as well as 12 all year round places in the Pre-school.We have 2 separate areas in the Pre-School. There is a larger room which incorporates a wet area for sand, water and messy craft activities and within this room we have a separate quiet room with books, colouring and a computer. We also have a smaller room which we can use for a variety of free play and planned activities.
The staffing ratio for this group is 1:8
Owls Planning
The Owls plan around the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which has 6 main areas of learning: Communication, Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Physical, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Creative, Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
Various activities are planned throughout the week linked to the curriculum. The children have opportunities to continue an activity already started or try something again if they want to. Each area of development is rotated over a six week period so that a child that only attends the Pre-school one day a week will be able to complete at least one activity from each area over a six week period.
Some activities will be child initiated and some will be planned through key areas of learning which motivate and encourage children to develop to their full potential. Key workers will also use evaluations, observation and PDRs to inform and support specific key skills through small group or 1-1 time with their key children.
Children within the Pre-school are encouraged to be more independent in preparation for school. This may be through encouraging self help skills, working together with their peers or accessing resources related to the current topic.
