EPA in Hospitality
You can send your apprentices to us for their official End Point Assessments (EPA) in two main hospitality vocations, or we can come to you.
We provide industry-accredited assessment in the Commis Chef Standard and Chef De Partie Standard.
At Brockenhurst College we were the first college in the UK to be authorised to provide these End Point Assessments, achieving the status in 2018.

Our modern Hospitality facilities, along with our highly-experienced and well-qualified staff, ensured we were able to pass the stringent quality tests.
How does the EPA work?
The EPA comprises the following four separate components.
On-demand test
This will be a paper-based multiple-choice exam lasting 90 minutes.
Culinary challenge observation
This will be completed in the kitchens at your premises, or at Brockenhurst College, and will last two hours.
Practical observation
This may be split to cover preparation and service. This must demonstrate the apprentice’s ability to produce dishes to an approved standard. This assessment will last three hours and will be recorded by the assessor in both written and picture/video form.
Professional discussion
This will last 40 minutes and will be a structured meeting that will include the apprentice’s line manager. It will focus on a logged record of recipes produced to demonstrate competency across the culinary range. This will also be recorded by the assessor in both written and picture/video form.
How many apprentices can you test at once?
- Commis Chef Standard – Minimum group of six (this depends on provider cohort size too).
- Chef De Partie Standard – Minimum group of six (this depends on provider cohort size too).
