South Coast Institute of Technology

Here at Brock we are active members of the South Coast Institute of Technology (IoT), alongside other colleges in our region. This initiative is designed to enable colleges and universities to deliver courses that support the government’s aim of reforming vocational and technical education and training.

The IoT’s primary aim is to roll out an enhanced curriculum offer to students that addresses and responds to local and regional skills gaps, supporting business needs. Ultimately, these enhanced courses will prepare students for work in key areas of industry, while simultaneously giving employers a pipeline of candidates with the right knowledge and skills.

The South Coast IoT focuses on supporting the development of courses in three industries where regional skills gaps have been identified – engineering, maritime and digital. Initially, the focus was on providing financial support to colleges and universities in order to significantly improve facilities and equipment access. This focus has now expanded to include providing high-quality careers and progression information, advice and guidance to students, parents/carers and schools.

The Greenwood Bursary may only be awarded to one student a year and was established in 2018 by retired Lyndhurst couple, John and Marion Greenwood, who together have backgrounds in engineering and education.

Brockenhurst College Greenwood Bursary 2024 recipient:

We asked care leaver and 2024 Greenwood Bursary recipient, Paige Allen, about her bursary success and her ambitions to become a senior paediatric nurse following her BSc child nursing degree at University of Southampton.

Here’s what she said:

“Brockenhurst College has supported my ambition by being flexible. Brock really allows you to take the lead in your education, but simultaneously it supports and guides you through your options. Brock stands out among the other colleges in our area because it allows students to mature by giving them freedom and letting them take responsibility. Brock sees uniqueness in every student and welcomes them without judgment.”

End Point Assessments in Hospitality

Image

You can send your apprentices to us for their official End Point Assessments (EPA) in two main hospitality vocations, or we can come to you.

We provide industry-accredited assessment in the Commis Chef Standard and Chef De Partie Standard.

At Brockenhurst College we were the first college in the UK to be authorised to provide these End Point Assessments, achieving the status in 2018.

Our modern Hospitality facilities, along with our highly-experienced and well-qualified staff, ensured we were able to pass the stringent quality tests.

To book a discussion about how we can deliver your organisation’s EPAs, please call: 01950 625555 or email epa@brock.ac.uk

Why choose Brockenhurst College?

Our Hospitality department is a dynamic and industrious environment where learners pick up and develop professional hospitality skills.

It operates from a fully-equipped, professional-standard kitchen, and all training is aided by our onsite commercial fine-dining restaurant facility.

Brock students demonstrate a high level of achievement, with a 100% pass-rate at Level 1 and Level 2. Meanwhile, learner retention across the department is high at 95%.

Over the last decade we have delivered 1,600 hospitality-based apprenticeships. Key employer partners include Marriott, Careys Manor, De Vere Hotels, Care South, Bournemouth and Poole Hospital Trusts and several local SMEs.

Host family application

Image

At Brockenhurst College we offer both long-term and short-term opportunities for Homestay hosts.

We have two-year A Level programmes for International students wishing to remain in the UK for university. Meanwhile, we have one-year A Level programmes for International students returning home to complete their high school education.

Other International students participate in our High School Experience Programme. This sees them stay for a term, two terms, or a term-and-a-half, commencing in September or January.

Groups also visit in summer and winter to undertake a residential English programme, which combines classes, activities and field trips. These students normally stay with us for between one and two weeks, residing with host families in twin rooms.

Please ensure you have read the Homestay Handbook before applying. It contains all the most important information, including details of the checks we are duty bound by law to make.
