Course introduction
Chinese is a language spoken by nearly one-fifth of the world’s population and has become important as a language of global business. By studying this Chinese programme you will become familiar with both the language and culture of China.
Following completion of the course, your new knowledge and understanding may prove invaluable in employment and/or Higher Education, depending on your next steps. This qualification can also count towards EBACC points, which are recognised by Russell Group of Universities.
You should be committed and passionate about learning a new language and discovering a new culture. You will need to purchase two textbooks at an approximate cost of £30.
Why choose Brock for AQA FCSE Chinese?
We are the only college providing Chinese language learning opportunities in our area. Our experienced Chinese teachers are passionate, supportive and always willing to help. This has enabled learners to achieve record exam results over successive years.
Did you know? At Brock you can befriend a Chinese International student as a ‘study buddy’ to obtain mutual learning benefits. Plus, we run cultural events on campus such as celebrating Chinese Lunar New Year. There are also opportunities to participate in exchange trips to China (travel rules permitting).
Teaching & learning
You will learn the structure of Chinese characters and its Pinyin system for pronunciation. You will learn the language by practising new vocabulary and set phrases through reading, listening, speaking and writing tasks. The topics covered will be related to your daily life, such as family and friends, education and plans, holidays and travel, food and drinks, hobbies and local areas etc. At this level there is a great emphasis on vocabulary building, so a commitment to regular review of the work covered in lessons is essential. You will also learn the language through strong cultural elements, such as celebrations around Chinese Lunar New Year.
