Course Details

Learn how to paint in acrylics and oils using basic painting techniques, which will include, sponging, palette knife, glazing , colour washes, stippling etc.

A structured week by week course encouraging students to grow and expand their skills, beginning with drawing at the 1st class and progressing to painting with oils and acrylics. A new subject or theme will be chosen fortnightly using a combination of still life and photographs.

Group activity in a relaxed and informal studio setting – one to one guidance within the class.

Information & Support

Suitable for beginners in drawing and painting or those who wish to develop their skills and techniques.

You will need to bring:

2b pencil, cartridge paper or sketch pad, rubber and any materials you may already have.

Please note that A1 and A2 sheets of drawing paper are available to purchase at the Centre.

Advice will be given for any future purchases in acrylics, oils and brushes.

Courses are run continually, and you will be able to join these to further develop your skills.

Are there any age restrictions (young/old)?

Students need to be 19 years old or over.

There is no upper age limit.

Can I start the course part way through?

For some courses, this may be possible.  Please contact leisurecourses@brock.ac.uk to confirm.

What do you define as a 'beginner'?

Beginner is someone who has little or no knowledge of the subject area.

Intermediate is for those who have completed a beginners course with us or have some knowledge of the subject but would like to learn more.
