Pilates – Beginners

Pilates – Beginners

Course Details

Pilates works on core strength while improving posture, body tone, alignment, strength, flexibility, co-ordination and breath control. Importantly, it involves listening to your own body needs. It is an exercise system that builds through levels and is used by physiotherapists to enhance healing. It is also used by professional athletes and dancers to improve performance.

You will participate according to a mat-based Pilates system, which will be taught primarily on the floor. However, you may use a chair, yoga block, cushion or towel to aid particular exercises.

Information & Support

Each class will commence with a short warm up and end with relaxation. You will build up a repertoire of Pilates exercises and find the level that is most suited to your personal needs.

Clothing should be comfortable and enable ease of movement while allowing the line of the body to be seen, enabling safe practice to be maintained. Please wear layers to enable warmth and coolness as appropriate. Shoes will not be worn, which means slipper socks may be a good addition to your kit (especially in winter).

You will also need a non-slip mat, plus a cushion and a towel for support and to act as a prop. Please also bring a bottle of water for rehydration.
