This course allows students to complete the first year of the GCE Biology A level and AS level qualifications with the convenience and flexibility of being delivered mostly by distance learning.
Student support comprises:
Two hour group starter session in September 2017.
Six laboratory workshops of two and a half hours duration in the evenings. The workshops will include experiments 1-6 of the 12 compulsory experiments required for the new full A level qualification.
Pre exam workshops just prior to the external AS examinations.
In addition students will receive a minimum of five hours individual support via email, telephone, Skype or face to face.
Course Structure & Teaching MethodsCourse Structure & Teaching MethodsLearning will be mostly by student self study using a dedicated textbook and an extensive range of resources available online through the college's Virtual Learning Environment (learn.brock). It is therefore essential to have access to the internet.
AssessmentAssessmentThe course followed is the Eduqas syllabus. All students will be entered for the AS level examinations. The AS assessment comprises 2 examinations containing multiple choice, short answers and extended response questions set in May/June 2018. Students continuing onto the 2nd year A level course with be assessed for the full A level through 3 examination papers in June 2019. Progression OpportunitiesProgression OpportunitiesCompletion of the AS Level Biology allows progression onto the A2 Distance Learning course to achieve a full A level qualification in Biology and then onto university or employment.
