Course introduction

Social science students have a popular enrichment option of looking at criminology. It attracts a range of like-minded sociology, psychology, law and science students. This year we have explored lots of areas such as the role of the police in reducing crime, criminal profiling, deception detection used by police when they are interviewing suspects along with other techniques for interviewing eye witnesses. We have also explored eye witness memory and topics in law and forensic cases. We have asked questions which we have debated such as “How effective is prison?” and “Are criminals born or made?”  We have set up a crime scene too and asked students to work out who the killer was using their skills.

  • I chose Brock because of the wide range of subjects that many sixth forms and other colleges near me don’t offer. What I enjoyed most is making such great friends, especially on my Chinese GCSE course. We all have an amazing bond and thanks to Brock I have some fantastic memories.
