Learn how to get off auto and get to grips with your digital camera and start taking control of your photography. This course is for anyone who wants to learn about their camera and photography, no prior knowledge is required. This course will look at how your camera works, and how to operate your camera in order to take control of your photography, highlighting what needs to be done in camera as opposed to what can be done in your favourite image processing software. During the course you will develop an understanding of camera functions such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO to allow you to control exposure. The basics of Framing and Composition will be looked at and practiced. Field trips will be organised to allow you to practice the skills learnt and these may be offered as half day sessions at weekends – but would be based on the majority view of the class.
This course will help you develop the skills to get the best out of your camera and equipment. Course hand-outs will be available to assist you to practice the tools and techniques learnt at home. Courses and workshops will be offered throughout the year giving learners the opportunity to further develop their skills.
Information & Support
Please bring your digital camera with charged batteries, memory card and instruction manual, along with any other photographic equipment you may have that could be useful such as a tripod, reflectors etc. A charger and/or USB cables will also be useful if you have them, as will a USB memory stick if you wish to save your edited images.
You will also need a note book and pen, additionally please bring something to keep assignments/hand-outs and photographs in. Practical help and advice is also provided to assist students with any kind of disability or individual need, including people for whom English is not their first language. Please contact our Centre staff to discuss your needs prior to starting your course.
