Course introduction
This flexible programme combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom. The course is an introduction to teaching and will give you a good insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships involved in education and training. You will study how to plan lessons, deliver lessons, assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
This learning opportunity is ideal for people who are new to teaching or want to work as teachers in the Further Education and Skills sector. Importantly, you can undertake this course even if you are not currently teaching.
Course structure
Mandatory units comprise:
- The roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
- Inclusive teaching and learning approaches
- Assessment of learners
- Facilitating learning and development for individuals
- Facilitating learning and development in groups
- Understanding principles and practices of assessment
Minimum entry requirements
GCSE Grade D/3 or above in English or equivalent.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through online written assignments and a portfolio of evidence, including an observation of a micro-teach.
Information & support
This course will last approximately ten weeks and features blended delivery. Units 1-3 will be completed online. You will attend two face-to-face lessons in unit 4, including for the assessment of your micro-teach.
Please note that you will only be eligible for this programme if you have appropriate knowledge and experience in the subject you wish to teach. You can start this course at any point during the year.
Course fees & Duration
There is a tuition fee of £400.
What can I do with this qualification?
After obtaining this qualification, you can progress to higher teaching qualifications such as the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, or the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. This course can also help you progress in teaching, training and support roles in various organisations associated with the lifelong learning sector.
