This course is aimed at people who want to engage in a career in the fitness industry as a fitness instructor, exercise specialist or class instructor and gives a great foundation for further studies at level 3 as a Personal Trainer.
The course teaches you about the human body with respect to the five main systems in the body; Musculo-skeletal, the heart and circulatory, the respiratory, the nervous and endocrine and the energy systems.
The qualification gained here allows you to link the human body to exercise, health and fitness and teaches you to design and plan exercise sessions for individuals who want to increase levels of fitness and muscular strength and endurance.
The awarding body is YMCA Awards which is a market leader in the fitness and leisure industry and is recognised the world over as a professional gold standard in specialised training provision.
The course structure is as follows:
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
- Principles of exercise, fitness and health
- Know how to support your clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
- Planning and Instructing Gym based exercise
How will I be assessed?
The course is a mixture of theory based learning and practical application which will take place in the classroom and in a gym environment where your skill and knowledge will be assessed.

The course dates are as follows:
Week one: 31st March + 3rd - 7th April
Week two: 9th - 14th April
Assessment days will be in term time following completion of the two week course.

What can I do with this qualification?
This course provides you with the relevant qualification required to work in the fitness industry as a qualified gym instructor.
Also this is the prerequisite for the second year of the Level 3 Diploma in Exercise and Fitness course which is a full time course commencing in September.
