Course introduction

This qualification has been designed to be studied alongside A Level courses to enable you to work towards a fulfilling career in the healthcare or science professions.

To study this award you should be passionate about the health sector and be excited about working as a healthcare professional or eventually studying at a higher level.

By achieving success on this course you can look forward to working in any one of a number of rewarding and exciting careers.

Course structure

  • Study aspects the human life span and human development, giving you fundamental insights.
  • Examine what it means to work in health and social care in order to acquire a greatly enhanced awareness of your professional obligations.
  • Explore what it takes to meet requirements for individual care and support.
  • Investigate sociological perspectives on health and social care, giving you a solid appreciation of your role in a societal context.
  • Develop higher level analytical skills by learning how to evaluate and reflect on practice.
  • Work in teams effectively whilst using your initiative to support class projects.

Minimum entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade A*-C or grade 4 to include:

  • English Language
  • Maths
  • Science

It's desirable that you have undertaken work experience for five days in a healthcare setting/environment.

What can I do with this qualification?

Once qualified you could seek employment as a healthcare professional in hospitals, residential homes and out in the community.

This qualification also opens doors to health and social care degrees, including: Midwifery, Adult and Paediatric Nursing, Paramedic Science, ODP, Physiotherapy, Counselling and Social Work.
