This qualification is equivilent to two A Levels. It enables you to work towards a fulfilling career in the healthcare.

To study this award you should be passionate about the health sector and be excited about working as a healthcare professional or eventually studying at a higher level.

Teaching & learning

During your studies you will benefit from modern teaching methods such as blended learning and flipped learning.

Computer technology will play a leading role in enhancing your academic and practical skills. Meanwhile, other learning initiatives include: class debates, peer reviews and engagement with clinical research.

Your work placement is a key component of the course and will bring greater meaning to your classroom learning. It will also give you valuable experience.

Course structure

  • Study aspects of the human life span and human development, giving you fundamental insights.
  • Examine what it means to work in health and social care in order to acquire a greatly enhanced awareness of your professional obligations.
  • Explore what it takes to meet requirements for individual care and support.
  • Investigate sociological perspectives on health and social care, giving you a solid appreciation of your role in a societal context.
  • Develop higher level analytical skills by learning how to evaluate and reflect on practice.

Work in teams effectively whilst using your initiative to support class projects

Minimum entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4 and above to include:

  • English Language
  • Maths

It's desirable that you have undertaken work experience for five days in a healthcare setting/environment.

If you haven't achieved GCSE Biology there may be an opportunity to study this alongside the diploma.

What can I do with this qualification?

Once qualified you could seek employment as a healthcare professional in hospitals, residential homes and out in the community.

Past students have gone on to pursue their aspirations in various healthcare sectors. Some have gone straight into work after college while others have gone on to higher level study.
