Course Details

If you have already paddled an open canoe, a sit-on-top or even a sea kayak, this two day course will introduce you to a wide range of craft and allow you to practise techniques in both canoe and kayak.

It will enable you to become a more confident paddler, able to use a variety of techniques to skilfully manoeuvre different types of boats in all flat water situations.

The course works towards the BCU2* which will allow you to take part in more exciting adventures in your canoe or kayak as part of a group.

Experience required: BCU1*

This course is suitable for those aged 16+. 

The Centre has a team of experienced staff, who will guide you through these early stages of kayaking and canoeing.  The shallow waters of Christchurch Harbour make it an ideal place to learn.

What do you define as a 'beginner'?

Beginner is someone who has little or no knowledge of the subject area.

Intermediate is for those who have completed a beginners course with us or have some knowledge of the subject but would like to learn more.

Are there any age restrictions (young/old)?

Students need to be 19 years old or over.

There is no upper age limit.
