This course is designed for people who are currently working with young children in an early years setting. You could be working in either a maintained or non-maintained setting, in a range of roles such as: Senior Nursery Nurse, Nursery Supervisor/Manager, Pre-School, Childminder, Play Group Leader, Room leader, Social services Children’s Department.
This Level 5 programme aims to encourage early years practitioners to adopt a critical view of their own workplace practice and that of others. It covers a wide range of aspects of early years; from curriculum issues to observations, child development to social policy.
Course Structure & Teaching Methods
Teaching and learning provides a wide variety of teaching methods which include lectures, group work, seminars and presentations. Most of the assessed work is linked directly to workplace practice. The FD is designed to provide theoretical underpinning knowledge to early year’s practice in order to meet the demands of government initiatives to raise standards and increase the professionalism of the early years sector.
Duration: 2 years part-time one day per week, Tuesday 9am - 5pm.

Students accepted onto the course are eligible to apply for student loans through Student Finance England and must have loans in place or in process before the start of the programme.
