This course is designed to introduce you to Oriental styles of painting. Inspiration will come from various sources including Chinese and Japanese Art. You will practice skills and mark making techniques used in Chinese Explore Japonisme: Term used to describe the influence of Japanese art on Western art and culture and the influence of the wood block print. Learners will produce work in an Oriental style. There will be an element of historical referencing within the course.
You will be taught through practical demonstration and hands on experience.
Information & Support
Learners can progress on to further workshops planned throughout the year or on to a 10 week Drawing and Painting course.
Please bring along:
Paints - Red, blue, yellow and black. Tubes of paint are better than pans. However, if you only have paint boxes, please bring these along. Watercolour brushes - Chinese painting brushes if you have them, if not, thin, thick and square brushes will be suitable. The Tutor will have some Chinese painting brushes that you can experiment with on the day. Paper - Photocopying paper. You will do lots of practising techniques so please bring half a ream of this. The Tutor will bring Chinese paper and other suitable papers for you to use. The Tutor will bring - Chinese paper, Ink, various visual resources, handouts, books and examples and various painting tools to experiment with.
Please bring a packed lunch.
