This qualification is primarily focused on future apprentices building up the skills required to enter an organisation in the Marine industry. It will also allow a learner to enter the workplace with all the basic skills required by employers and an
Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme.
The course is made up of 6 units comprising of mandatory and optional units: working safely in an engineering environment; carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively; using and communicating technical information.
Optional units include: using wood for pattern, model-making and other engineering applications (boatbuilding); assembling pattern, model and engineering woodwork components (boatbuilding); producing composite mouldings using wet lay-up techniques (boatbuilding); producing components using hand fitting techniques (marine engineering); producing mechanical assemblies (marine engineering); producing composite mouldings using wet lay-up techniques (marine engineering); wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits (marine electrical); forming and assembling electrical cable enclosure and support systems (marine electrical); assembling and testing electronic circuits (marine electrical).
Minimum entry requirements
Students need to have at least 4 GCSEs at grade D or above. Applicants with experience who can demonstrate a positive attitude to learning and developing within the Marine industry will also be considered.
How will I be assessed?
Students will be given practical and theory sessions. This work will be assessed via a portfolio of evidence.

Costs: Compulsory £150 for corporate clothing, safety shoes, text book and classroom equipment.
What can I do with this qualification?
Students may progress onto an apprenticeship framework subject to Employer and College reports and quality of the portfolios/assessments.
