Photoshop Workshop – Sharpening Digital Images

Course Details

We will be looking at the three stages of sharpening Input/Capture Sharpening. Creative Sharpening and Output Sharpening. Review and use the various tools available in Photoshop for sharpening and how they fit into the three stages above.

This course is suited to anyone who wants to learn about sharpening digital images or those who wish to further develop their current skills.

Pre-requisites:  A working knowledge of Photoshop layers and layer masks or completion of the Photoshop layers and layer masks workshop prior to this course.

This one day workshop will look at the various tools available to us in Photoshop for sharpening our images. We will then look at how to use these in the three stages of the sharpening workflow namely:

  • Input/Capture Sharpening
  • Creative Sharpening
  • Output Sharpening
  • Input Sharpening – Generally applied in camera and or applied in software whether you are aware of it or note, it happens we will delve into the what, why and how of Input Sharpening.
  • Creative Sharpening – Most likely the least used area of sharpening as it generally takes the most time and needs thinking about. We will look at why and how to do Creative Sharpening.
  • Output Sharpening – In this section we will be addressing sizing and resolution of images prior to output sharpening.  Sharpening for print and for the WEB, and finally naming conventions for your saved images.

If time permits, we will look at sharpening some of your own images so please bring some along.  If you would like to save any of your classwork, please bring a USB memory stick.

Course handouts will be available to assist you to practices the tools and techniques at home, so you may wish to bring something to keep hand-outs in.

Please bring a note book and pen, and any images you would like to discuss (time permitting).  Please also bring a packed lunch with you.

You will be taught by means of practical demonstration and hands on experience.

Are there any age restrictions (young/old)?

Students need to be 19 years old or over.

There is no upper age limit.

Can I start the course part way through?
