Course introduction


This apprenticeship is designed to enable you to develop a highly-transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours to help you progress at work.

Importantly, it will give you a firm grounding in business-related operations and functional processes, as well as the wider working environment.

As an apprentice you will develop key skills and behaviours to support your progression towards management responsibilities.

You will typically be working in the public sector, private sector or charitable sector as an administration assistant, personal assistant, business administrator, office assistant or office supervisor.

Teaching & learning


You will follow a structured programme of training and development, which includes off-the-job training that may include work-shadowing, offsite visits and research.

Both theory and practice will be covered in detail to give you the knowledge and skills you can take forward to your End Point Assessment (EPA).

Information & support


You will need a computer and internet access to follow your programme and be able to access the appropriate learning resources.

Minimum entry requirements


  • GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 or above.
  • Functional Skills Maths and English will be included in your programme if you have not achieved at least GCSE grade 4. 
  • You must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week. 

Course structure


This learning opportunity is geared towards helping you acquire and develop the appropriate skills, knowledge and behaviours for your job role. Units include:

  1. Principles of business administration – develop an understanding of the organisation, the fundamentals of business, legislation and regulation of the admin role.
  2. Personal and professional development – develop knowledge and skills to improve personal and professional development.
  3. Managing performance – develop professional skills and knowledge to complete tasks to a high standard, take responsibility for own learning setting a positive example.
  4. Your organisation – develop understanding of your own organisation and the value of their contribution. Identify and support where improvements are needed in processes.
  5. Communication in a business environment – develop your ability to communicate effectively, produce records and documentation meeting compliance, and support others.
  6. ICT for business – enhance your knowledge and skills required to use ICT for business purposes, understand the most suitable package to meet business needs.
