English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Course introduction
ESOL stands for English for Speakers of Other Languages. The course is specifically designed for non-native English speakers who wish to start learning English or improve their skills, making it ideal for adults who have recently moved to the UK.
This general, non-exam programme will cover skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. You will learn vocabulary, grammar, punctuation and spelling in a variety of everyday contexts and in a supportive learning environment.
Importantly, the ESOL can be adapted to suit individual needs. In collaboration with your tutor, you will agree on specific weekly targets using an Individual Learning Plan. At the end of the course you will have the opportunity to progress onto a Functional Skills English programme.
Among other things you will:
- Learn how to make everyday conversation.
- Explore messages in posters, adverts, emails, articles and books.
- Understand how to give, take and understand instructions.
