Teaching & learning

Our teachers use traditional learning methods, sourcing raw learning materials from official Cambridge and Oxford University Press textbooks.

Minimum entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 4 and above with a minimum average GCSE score of 4.0, including:

• English Language grade 5
• English Literature grade 5
• Maths

In addition, an interest in the analysis of grammar and language is desirable.

Course structure

• Learn how language is used to create representations and meanings, giving you a greater awareness of the power associated with the written and spoken word.

• Develop your understanding of language diversity, helping you appreciate the significance of different accents, dialects, genders and social groups.

• Have the opportunity to conduct an investigation into language and produce original written work.

• Explore how we first learned to speak as infants in order to acquire a deeper understanding of linguistic expression.

• Debate whether or not men and women really use language differently whilst implementing actual research on the topic.

• View how English has changed over the centuries, how it is still changing and what people think about these changes.

What can I do with this qualification?
