You can develop your knowledge and skills related to counselling by exploring key elements of major counselling theories on this programme. Importantly, you will develop self-understanding and reflect on your own values and beliefs. Successfully completing this qualification will enable you to provide effective support to others.
Course structure
Unit 1: Using counselling skills
You will learn to identify core counselling skills and acquire an understanding of how these should be practised in a counselling relationship. You will also gain an understanding of how to establish an effective working relationship, and consider the boundaries that need to be respected in this sensitive role.
Unit 2: Introduction to counselling skills theories
You will be introduced to the key elements of theoretical approaches related to counselling, psychodynamics, person-centred therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy.
Unit 3: Diversity and ethics in the use of counselling skills
You will cover the concepts of diversity and ethics, giving you an understanding of anti-discriminatory practice. You will also discover the key aspects of an ethical framework and explore ways to address diversity issues in practice.
Unit 4: Counselling skills and personal development
You will develop self-understanding, identifying your own values and beliefs, as well as your ability to reflect on your personal qualities and skills.
