Course introduction


You can gain a broad understanding of the key management and leadership theory that underpins and supports growth and performance thanks to this apprenticeship opportunity.

You will also develop a range of essential management skills in strategic planning, strategic change and business process design, along with core leadership and management abilities like inspiring colleagues.

Typically you will already be employed as an operations manager, regional manager, divisional manager, department manager or other specialist manager.

As a learner, you will also have access to the College’s additional support for apprentices.

Teaching & learning


You will learn through practical workshops, portfolio building, observations, professional discussions, performance reviews and detailed feedback.

Importantly, the programme will integrate the knowledge, skills and behaviour components that are fundamental to your role.

It will also ensure you are sufficiently prepared to undertake the End Point Assessment (EPA).

Towards the end of the programme you will undertake a synoptic work-based project, which will bring together different elements of your learning.

This will demonstrate your accumulated knowledge and understanding of management and its application in your organisation.

The subject matter of the project will be agreed between the you, your employer and the college, and must be of benefit to your employer organisation.

Information & support


You will need a computer and internet access to follow your programme and be able to access the appropriate learning resources.

Minimum entry requirements


  • GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 or above. 
  • You must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week. 
  • Functional Skills Maths and English will be included in your programme if you have not achieved at least GCSE grade 4.

  • Manage strategic change.
  • Develop and implement an operational plan.
  • Manage a project.
  • Manage business risk.
  • Lead the development of a continuous improvement strategy.

  • ILM Level 6 Award in Management
  • Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (England only)
  • Management related degree course
  • ILM Level 7 Qualifications in Leadership and Management
