Course introduction
If you are an A Level student who loves performing and want to develop your practical skills in drama, music and physical theatre, then this is definitely the course for you.
You will spend a lot of time working with your fellow students to create unique performances that incorporate various techniques.
Although most of your work will be practical, you will develop a portfolio of work to evidence your new knowledge and skills.
There is no written exam in this subject; however, it is equivalent to one A Level and you may study it alongside your other subjects.

You will benefit from two studio theatres, a large performance space, four sound studios, two sprung dance studios, three rehearsal studios, props and costume areas, two Mac suites, and two lighting and sound gantries.
Also, your teachers will regularly bring professional performance companies into the College to run workshops and give performances.
Teaching & learning
The course is delivered through practical workshops, skills sessions, coursework, rehearsals and public performances.
It also includes opportunities to analyse the work of professional and semi-professional performers through a series of theatre trips
Importantly, your work will be graded internally by our experienced staff and then verified by the awarding body.

Please note, the full course title for this programme is Performing Arts Practice Level 3 Foundation Diploma.
This course is equivalent to one-and-a-half A Levels in UCAS points. You will need to complete TWO other A Levels alongside this course to build a full Study Programme.
Minimum entry requirements
Five GCSEs at grade 4 and above to include:
- English Language
- Drama grade 5 (if taken – desirable)
- Maths

- Explore contemporary theatre in depth, giving you a greater appreciation of drama, music and physical theatre.
- Work on devising performances in order to develop both your skills and your ability to evidence your progress.
- Examine the historical context of performance to understand its cultural significance.
- Delve into the world of musical theatre by looking closely at singing and characterisation.
- Learn and evaluate different forms of physical theatre.
Learn about different acting styles, giving you a clear appreciation of the various different means of onstage communication.

The skills you will learn on this course are central to the entertainment industry and can lead to a wide range of openings in performance, technical work and management.
Institutions of higher education offer degree courses in Performing Arts either as a single honours course or linked with Business, Media, Humanities, and a number of other subjects.
