Course introduction
You will explore the key elements of photographing people – taking your imagery from simple snaps to formal and informal portraits. As well as the basics of understanding your camera and the importance of lighting, composition and context, the focus will be on creating photographs full of personality. There will be tips to overcome common challenges, including ways of engaging reluctant subjects, along with some simple editing techniques to enhance what you have shot. You will also experiment in the classroom and at home to build confidence in capturing characterful, timeless photographs of your friends and family to share or print, while enhancing your general photography skills as well.
Information & support
Please bring a notebook and pen. This course is suitable for all levels, including people who have a mobile phone only (provided it has a good camera). If you have a digital camera, please bring it along with memory cards, as well as fully charged batteries and your charger. Please also bring your camera instruction manual and any other camera equipment you may have that could be useful, such as a tripod, reflectors, flash gun and filters. Having said that, additional equipment is not strictly necessary. Importantly, course handouts will be available to help you practise techniques at home.
