Product Photography Workshop

Course introduction


This one-day workshop will cover lighting and shooting a variety of products using daylight, flash and continuous lighting. You will be looking at:

•      Shooting using daylight or available light.

•      Shooting in a studio set-up.

·       Flash and continuous lighting.

•      Choosing light types and set-ups for certain products.

•      Creating a workspace.

•      Backgrounds and prop choices and positioning.

•      Using reflectors, diffusers.

•      Control and balance of light.

•      Quality of light.

•      Camera control and settings, angles, viewpoint, exposure and colour correction.

•      Shooting tethered to a computer.

Postproduction techniques to clean-up and enhance your images using Photoshop will be discussed and demonstrated depending on time. This is a hands-on course. No experience is necessary, but it is essential that you know your camera controls for shooting in manual mode.

Information & support


Please bring a notebook and pen, your digital camera, memory card(s) and fully charged batteries and your charger. Please also bring your camera’s instruction manual and any other camera equipment you may have that could be useful. This could include a tripod, reflectors, a flash gun and/or filters. If you would like to save any of your class work, please bring a USB memory stick. Course handouts will be available to assist you to practise techniques at home. Please bring a packed lunch.
