Course introduction

This course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in sewing and would like to progress their skills but finds that they are hindered by their lack of knowledge of their sewing machine functions.

Students should already know how to thread their machine and bobbin prior to the start of this workshop.

By the end of the workshop you will have gained experience and knowledge in the correct use of your sewing machine, what the different feet and attachments are for and how to use them, how to correctly wind the bobbin, thread the machine, set tensions and maintain your machine.

You will be given information on threads, machine needles, fabric types etc. to ensure trouble free sewing.  This will be followed by basic and more advanced sewing techniques to get you started.

Please bring along – sewing machine, machine accessories and instruction manual, fabric scraps to practise on, scissors, pins, spare machine needles, variety of dark threads e.g. red, dark green or mid blue – (Gutterman) , notebook and pen. Please also bring a packed lunch.
