Course introduction
This course will provide you with a specialist work-related qualification in furniture, upholstery, finishing furniture and wood machining.
The course is made up of units covering furniture finishing methods (hand and spray finishing), upholstery, soft furnishings, mattress making, modern and traditional upholstery techniques and wood machining.
You will measure, cut and sew fabrics to customer or company requirements to create items such as cushions, curtains and furniture covers. With practice you may also repair furniture.
Upon completion of this course, you may choose to work in a production environment or a craft workshop. You could also specialise in one area e.g. padding sofa arms, or repairing holes.
Information & support
Safety shoes must be worn when in the workshop.
This course incorporates functional skills.
What can I do with this qualification?
With further training or study, students may progress into careers in the Furniture industry.
