Here is all the important information you need to make the most of your first day at college.
Your first day will be Friday 9 September. You should have received this information via email.
It is really important that you only attend on the day you have been allocated. If you have not received an email with this information, please contact us.

What time should I arrive?
Your Welcome Tutor session will start at the main college site at 9am and will run for 30 minutes.
If you are taking the free college bus, it will get you to college in plenty of time for your first session. If you are making your own way, you can arrive at any time from 8.30am.
On arrival, please go directly to the Sports Hall where you will be given your room number and guided to your first session. During this session you will be given your timetable for the day and your main timetable for the year.
We have added a downloadable map so you can see where the Sports Hall is on campus. Our staff and Student Ambassadors will be there to greet and guide you as you arrive.
Ultima (New Milton) – Beauty Courses
Please arrive at our New Milton beauty salon, Ultima, for 9am.
You can either make your own way to Ultima or catch a college bus to our main campus in Brockenhurst for 9am. You will then take the train from Brockenhurst to New Milton and walk the short distance to Ultima. We will provide you with a train ticket, so please let us know if you need one by emailing: firstname.lastname@example.org
Marchwood – Construction and Marine Courses
Please arrive at Marchwood Skills Centre for 9am.
You can make your way to Marchwood Skills Centre or you can catch the free college bus (C27) from Totton train station.
What should I wear?
You can wear what you like at College. However, if your programme includes sport, exercise, fitness or performing arts, please bring appropriate clothing and footwear.
Marchwood – Construction and Marine Courses
If you have purchased a uniform, please wear this. Please also bring with you a pen and paper.
You will have a timetabled break for lunch.
The HardBrock café will be open to serve a variety of hot and cold food. You can pay with either cash or card, however, contactless payments are preferred.
If the HardBrock is busy, or you would like to explore the surrounding area, you can walk into Brockenhurst village where there is a mix of cafes and shops serving food. We ask that you do not go into the village with more than four people in your group.
Marchwood and Ultima
If you are based at Ultima there are options to purchase food. Or please bring a packed lunch with you.
If you are based at Marchwood, please bring a packed lunch.
Free periods – Brockenhurst campus only
When you receive your timetable you may have a free period. During these sessions you can:
- Explore the campus. There are plenty of open spaces at the College both inside and outside.
- Visit the LRC where you will find a range of books, journals and magazines.
- Go to the Staff Lawn where our Student Ambassadors will be running garden games. You can just turn up and play any of the following:
- Table tennis
- Giant Jenga
- Garden chess
What time does the day end?
Lessons finish at Brock at 4:20pm and the College buses leave at 4:30pm.
The day will end at Marchwood at 3:30pm, when you can either make your own way home or take the bus back to Totton train station.
The day will end at Ultima at approximately 3:30pm. College buses will be departing from the main site at 4:30pm.

Bursaries & Financial Support
We understand that further education may involve some extra expense.
There are a number of ways to access help with these costs.
- Ensure that your family is accessing all the state benefits they are entitled to, including Child Benefits.
- Check with your Local Authority to see if they will assist with travel costs (now mainly aimed at students with special needs).
- Check if there is help available from local charities or trust funds.
- Apply to our College Bursary Fund.

Travelling to Brock
If you’re travelling by train and have not yet collected your train pass, please make sure you have a valid ticket for the day as train inspectors often check tickets around this time.
If you’re travelling by bus and don’t already have your bus pass, you can use your college ID card as proof that you are a Brock student, but you’ll need to ensure you collect your bus pass at induction.
