Hobbies*
Where possible, we try to match students to host families with similar interests, so please try to list whole family hobbies as well as individual hobbies. This might include any clubs or groups you or your family belong to for example Scouts, church membership, sporting groups as well as other interests and hobbies.

Please explain number of animals, type & size.Some students come from countries where pets do not play such a big part of people's lives, and therefore can be nervous to be around animals. Having as much information about the animal will help us to place an appropriate student.

About the Student
It is useful for us to get to know what kind of student a host family is looking for as this will help us to place the right student with you. Please note that we cannot guarantee being able to place a particular kind of student with you, and that being very specific about a particular kind of student could limit your chances of the College being able to make a placement with you.

Preferred student age*
Most of our longer-term students are 16/17/18 years old. We also occasionally have students who are under 16 when they arrive (e.g. 15 years old) and need host family accommodation. Any host family taking care of a student under 16 for 27 or more continuous nights will be considered a Private Foster Carer, and as such will need to be under the care of the relevant Local Authority Social Services department until the student turns 16. Further information can be given to you about this at the first host family visit.Do you have a preference for student age?

Compliance
To ensure the safety and well-being of our students, all host families must comply with our regulations and cannot be fully welcomed onto the hosting programme until such compliance issues have been confirmed.All members of your household over the age of 18 must have a clean DBS check (Disclosure & Barring Service, formally CRB). Brockenhurst College will pay for two (2) of these full adult checks per household. Additional checks will be at your expense. We ask that you pay for the DBS checks initially (currently £44 each) and we will reimburse you after a successful period of hosting for us (usually around 3 - 4 months / a term).You will need to provide the names of two people who can provide us with a character reference as to your suitability to become a host family - one of these should know you in a professional capacity (usually your employer), and other can be a personal reference from someone who has known you for at least two years.If you or any member of your household are part of the DBS update service, we may be able to use a current certificate. The original certificate will need to be provided for this. Please ask for further information.ALL gas appliances in your property must conform to Gas Safety Regulations 1998 (Installation & Use) and you must provide us with a copy of your Landlord's Gas Safety Certificate on a yearly basis. These include gas hobs and ovens, boilers, fireplaces and any other gas appliance within your property.Host families will have an initial inspection visit to determine their suitability as a host family and then on a yearly basis ensure that suitability.Please ensure that you read through the Guidelines for Host Families. By agreeing to host a Brockenhurst College student, you are adhering to regulations outlined in those guidelines.
