Brockenhurst College has partnered with six other education institutions in the South to bid for £13m of government funding to create an Institute of Technology.
Solent University and Fareham College are leading the application, which also includes Eastleigh College, Havant and South Downs College, The Isle of Wight College and University of Portsmouth.
The bid has now reached the critical Stage 2 phase, during which final representations will be made on the viability and benefits of any investment.
Brock’s share of the overall scheme will be £400,000 to increase its Level 3 learning provision at Marchwood Skills Centre.
Two new courses would be introduced, namely a new Merchant Navy Pre-cadetship course and another Marine Engineering programme.
The additional funding would also see investment in additional learning equipment such as diesel engines, generators, mills and lathes.
Brockenhurst College Vice Principal, Limor Feingold, said: “We are cautiously optimistic about the merits of our combined bid.
“It feels very positive to be working in partnership with other regional stakeholders who share our values and objectives.”
