Brockenhurst College will have its own train station on the Weymouth to Waterloo line from September 2025, it has been announced.
Known as Brockenhurst College Parkway, the two-platform installation will be linked by a footbridge and have its own station master and shop.
The facility will be a mandatory stop in both directions, Monday – Friday, serving students from Southampton and Bournemouth areas.
It is hoped the new station will also help alleviate congestion on Lyndhurst Road and ensure that students travelling by rail always get to class on time.
Construction work will take place over the summer, with the whole project set to cost around £3m.
The move to give Brockenhurst College its own train station comes after decades of talks between college officials and the rail authorities.
Brock transport supremo, Ben Thomson, who made the announcement in a recent all-staff meeting, said:
“To me, this is an absolute no-brainer and ought to have been done years ago – the track runs along the back of our sports field, for goodness sake…”
Gazing out of the window, the human-logistics-hardman-with-a-heart-of-gold added: “I want to build an airport as well – that would really impress international students.”
The new station’s grand opening has been scheduled for the first day of the 2025 Autumn Term, with Prince William cutting the ribbon alongside local weather presenter, April Olof.
