Brockenhurst College’s Hard Brock Café achieved the maximum food hygiene rating of five-out-of-five during an unannounced inspection by New Forest District Council Environmental Health officials last week.

As well as being a pat-on-the-back for Hard Brock Café workers, the success means students and staff can continue to consume food and drink bought on campus with complete confidence.

The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is operated by the government’s Food Standards Agency in partnership with local authorities.

Manager Phillippa Parish said: “As a team we are really pleased to receive the highest possible rating for food hygiene.

“This is great news for us, the College, and everyone who enjoys eating, drinking and socialising at the facility.”

The Hard Brock Café supplies a range of hot and cold food and drink for all tastes, including vegetarian and vegan options, as well as food suitable for people with food allergies.

It is spread over two floors and has entertainment/communications infrastructure such as TV, music speakers and Wi-Fi.

The facility is the College’s main hub for socialising and participating in informal study.
