Students at Brockenhurst College will soon have access to a new social space thanks to the construction of a second covered courtyard costing £115,000.
The facility in M Block will comprise 225 square metres of decking and ten picnic benches for eating, studying and socialising.
Other features will include an automatic sliding door, energy-efficient LED lighting and wheelchair access.
Importantly, users will be protected from the elements all year round by a steel and canvas roof structure.
The Students’ Union is currently asking learners for suggestions about what other features they would like to see.
One idea is to create a quiet study area in a dedicated zone.
Vice Principal Simon Lovegrove said: “When the student voice requested more social space, we listened, and this is the result.
“We are very pleased with the design, the energy-saving aspects and the extra utility it will deliver for our whole college community.”
The new amenity will mirror the existing covered courtyard in M Block, which is a popular spot for learners to gather outside of lessons.
Building work will commence during the Autumn half-term holidays, with completion expected by the end of November.
