Student tea party raises £360 for breast cancer charity
Posted on: 24th February 2017
Students from Brockenhurst College raised £360 for a breast cancer charity recently by organising a tea party and cake sale.
Billed as The Big Tea Cosy, the event took place on college grounds and featured a wide variety of tasty treats made by Early Years and Foundation Studies learners.
Brockenhurst businesses were also involved, with Village Veg and Terrace Café supplying raffle prizes and Tesco donating tea and coffee.
The money raised has now gone towards running Breast Cancer Haven’s nearest support centre in Titchfield.
Early Years student Beth Parkinson said: ““It feels great to be able help with such a good cause.
“Having researched Breast Cancer Haven as part of our studies, we all wanted to get involved and were very pleased with how supportive local businesses have been.”
Course Leader in Early Childhood, Victoria Hussey, said: “Some of the students have family members affected by breast cancer, which is another important reason why they wanted to do something to help.”
Sending her thanks, Heidi Rehman from Breast Cancer Haven Wessex commented: “I’m so impressed with the way students have pulled together and come up with fundraising ideas that involve the local community and help spread awareness.”
