What are the benefits?

The Academy is a tremendous platform for all aspiring athletes to gain outstanding coaching from highly qualified and experienced coaches.

As a Rugby Academy player you will learn from highly experienced coaches who hold official RFU coaching qualifications and who have helped previous players be selected to represent not only Hampshire, but also Great Britain.

What facilities will I have access to?

The Rugby Academy has use of 2 grass pitches for training and matches that are on College campus.

You will also have access to the following facilities:

  • Fully equipped gym and fitness studio.
  • Brand new purpose built changing facilities.

Are there any fees?

All players within the Rugby Academy purchase a training kit package of shorts, jersey, socks, wet top and track pant. All kit is Canterbury branded and has the player’s initials on each item and the college logo. Cost of this is £136 and is ordered via the rugby academy at College.

Are there any entry requirements?

To join one of our academies you will need to have/be:

  • A good level of playing experience in your chosen sport be it from playing for your school or a club, county etc.
  • A willingness to learn and develop in your chosen sport.
  • A student studying a course at Brockenhurst College. Remember – you don’t have to study sport to be a member of the Sports Academy.
  • Between 16 -19 years old.

Will I be competing?

All of the Academies compete in competitions throughout the season. These include county, regional and national competitions such as Hampshire Schools and Colleges Leagues and Cups, British Colleges Sport leagues and tournaments as well as other nationwide cup competitions.

As a Rugby Academy we have brought home an impressive collection of silverware over the years, including the league title.

We’ve also claimed some impressive scalps along the way.

     Why join the Academy?

  • The rugby academy starts with a focus on basic skills and a basic style of game play so we can bring players from different clubs together as one team.
  • As the season progress we develop the technical skills and incorporate more tactics in to the training sessions to suit the strengths of our team.
  • Having two training sessions a week assists us in developing the team and individuals quickly to compete successfully in the county and regional competitions.
  • If players do not have a club then players can join a local club close to them and Alan Steel, head of rugby is also the 1st team coach at Ellingham and Ringwood RFC.
  • A lot of students go on to play rugby at university whilst studying alongside their academic programmes after college. A few of our former players are now professional and semi professional players after leaving college and have been scouted by teams such as London Irish.
  • Luke Spring

Brock offered me the ideal opportunity to study what I wanted while continuing to play competitive rugby through its Rugby Academy. The outstanding moment of being at Brock for me was playing in the Hampshire Cup rugby final at Wellington Sports Ground.

Get Involved – Taster Sessions

If you’d like to be part of the Rugby Academy, then come along to one of our Sports Academy taster sessions to find out more about our academies and how you can take part in sport alongside your studies. Our Rugby taster sessions are held in May each year.

The programme is open to all Brock students, however we expect our academy players to have a good level of playing experience in their sport and a willingness to learn and develop. You must also show full commitment to your team.
