I’ve always had the idea of Oxford in my mind, and it being such an amazing university and such an amazing opportunity, but I didn’t really think I’d have a chance. Coming to Brock just gave me so much more confidence to apply because the College has a really well-organised progression system.

A level English Literature, History and Biology.
Offer received from University of Oxford to study English Language
What made you choose to study at Brock?
“I come from the Isle of Wight and had always seen Brock as the only sixth form college that I would attend. I came to a few open days and was really impressed by the college. I had also heard a lot of good things about it.”
What was your background before you came to college?
“GCSEs at my old school on the island.”
What made you choose your progression path?
“I wasn’t really sure about what I wanted to do when I first started at Brock, so I took subjects that could leave it quite open in order to have a few different options. However, quite soon into my English course I decided that I just really loved it and that that’s what I wanted to do. “
What were your highlights while attending Brock?
“Definitely the people. It’s so lovely, and I’ve made so many new friends who I just wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet if I’d stayed on the Isle of Wight. Brock has a really friendly community, and it’s really easy to meet new people.”
Have you taken up any opportunities since studying at the College?
“I did a bit of work experience at my local newspaper and I was a Student Ambassador for a while, which I think helped me integrate a bit more into the College. I’ve also gone on three of the courses recommended by the Aspire scheme.”
